Next Up, General Season Elk Hunt, November 4th!
All Hunters! The PA Game Commission has finalized the dates that you can apply. The dates are much earlier than in past years. You can apply February 1, 2024 through July 14, 2024. You do not have to buy your PA hunting license until you are drawn for an elk tag.
The website to buy your PA hunting license online is www.huntfish.pa.gov . It is not required to buy a license before applying. You can also purchase you elk permit application in person at the usual issuing agents. Another very important change is that you can select FIVE Preferred Elk Hunting Zones. Watch for the explanation on the Fallback Option, it is another critical part of your choices. Trophy Rack Lodge highly recommends that you take the time to view the video “How to Apply for a PA Elk License on HuntFishPA”. Click the Find Out More button below for the link. What makes a great hunt? Elk guides who locate and know travel patterns of the elk, access to prime hunting territory, all to give you the edge!
We have exclusive rights to over 750 acres of private, prime hunting ground in EHZ 12, none better in the country! Larry has planted 15 to 20 acres of food plots with clover, turnips, buckwheat and chicory. Hunting stands are placed overlooking plots and elk trails that weave through the property.
Our local guides spend the time in the state game lands and state forrests looking for elk hot spots in all the zones. We do extensive preseason scouting and know where the big boys are located. Year after year we watch the elk and know their territories and where they move after the rut.
Our lodges are located in Zone 13 where we have over 800 acres we own and an addditional 1000 private ground to hunt. Larry and our guides establish relationships with landowners in all the zones to allow us hunting privileges.
In EHZ 1, which is an open zone to all elk hunters, we have exclusive rights to prime farmland which is where many of the monsterous bulls our hunters have harvested were located.

What preferred zones do you suggest when applying for your elk license? We suggest zones 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. Put zone 12 as your first choice. We will guide in any zone that you are drawn for!
Is there a preference point system when applying for you elk license?
Yes, you get a preference point for each year you apply. All three seasons , archery, regular and late will accumulate the points for the years you applied for that season. Out of state applicants have an equal chance as PA residents. A detailed explaination is on the PGC website.
How many years do you have to wait before you can be drawn for an elk tag after you already were drawn for a tag? Five years after you were drawn for a bull tag and there is no wait to apply if you were drawn for a cow tag. You will only lose your points for the season that you had drawn a tag. The two other seasons will retain your points for future drawings.
When and where can I put in for an elk license? February 1 through JULY 16, 2023. Go to https://huntfish.pa.gov/ We highly recommend watching the video put out by the PA Game Commission on YouTube on how to apply for the 3 elk tag drawings and purchase your hunting license at https://youtu.be/fgZgJ7mHXE0 . The cost to purchase each of the three elk drawing apps is $11.97. You can enter all three seasons or only the seasons you are interested in. A PA hunting license can be purchased at that time also but it is not necessary. If you are lucky enough to be drawn for an elk tag, you can purchase a PA hunting license then. You can buy both over the counter also.
